(Kampot) Salt of the Earth

Kampot Salt
Pin It

One of the essential elements without which humans cannot survive, salt is a mineral that comes exclusively from the sea — either the seas we see before us today, or ancients seas that have long ago been absorbed by the earth leaving saline mineral deposits buried underground. Thanks no doubt to its vital nature, salt is one of the oldest seasonings adopted by man, because while we may depend upon it for our survival, our bodies do not have the capacity to manufacture or store much by themselves. Perhaps this is why we have also developed such a taste for it.

Escape to the Wilds with Betreed Adventures in Preah Vihear

In the very heart of Cambodia, lost in the forests to the north of Beng Per Wildlife Sanctuary, the immense Preah Khan of Kampong Svay temple and of Kampong Thom, there is a retreat so perfect you may never want to leave. It is not luxury, it is not even easy to get to, but once you’re there, the peace, seclusion and immersion into nature are so complete, you may never want to leave. Betreed Adventures was started up in 2015 by an American-Australian couple (Ben and Sharyn Davis) who have been in Cambodia for more than 20 years each. What they have built here is an expression of their passion for Cambodia, for conservation and for a way of life that leaves the world in a better state than they found it.

Space shrinking for counterfeiters in Cambodia

Anti Counterfeiting

There aren’t many in Cambodia who can lay claim to never having purchased a bootlegged CD or DVD in their time. Counterfeit products have long been an unremarkable element of daily life here. But now, thanks to the growth of Cambodia’s economy and the resulting expansion in the number of products now available on the market that are susceptible to counterfeiting, the extent of the phenomenon has exploded alongside the range of goods being imitated. It is now so severe say officials, that the governments of Cambodia and Thailand took the first public steps in September to jointly address the issue.

September was of full of new projects at Thalias and we have plenty to share with you this month.

First, I am proud to announce that, after weeks of preparation, we officially inaugurated the Thalias Assessment Center for Food Production in Phnom Penh. Thanks to the creation of a partnership between Thalias Co Ltd, ASSIST Mekong and the National Committee for Tourism Professionals of the Ministry of Tourism, this new Center aims to create the context and structure for recognising and awarding professional certification for hospitality skills.

Following this same passion for food and cuisine, our team at Topaz has a very special gourmet offer for our guests this month; and Khéma has developed a brand new menu featuring original dishes that you will be able to enjoy very soon at all Khéma outlets. This menu looks stunning and I heartily recommend a read below to see what lies in store.

Finally, I am pleased to announce that Ms. Sambo NOV, who is already part of the Thalias family, has been appointed as the new General Manager of Malis Phnom Penh restaurant. I'm wishing her lots of success and happiness in this new job!

Yours sincerely,
Arnaud Darc,
CEO and Chairman Thalias Hospitality Group
