On September 10, a joint group representing the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents, the Cambodian Restaurants Association, the Cambodian Tourism Federatin and the Cambodian Hotel Association, submitted a letter to the Ministry of Tourism containing proposals for safely opening the Kingdom to international travellers in November this year.
The letter, containing a “Joint Policy Recommendation” from the group says that safely opening up again gives Cambodia the opportunity “to reinvent [itself] as a … stand-alone destination, no longer an add-on or extended destination for visitors to Thailand and Vietnam”.
Noting the government’s extraordinary success in its vaccination drive that has now reached 83% of the population, the joint group says that a positive reopening can generate positive travel headlines, and change the way Cambodia is seen around the world.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take the lead and promote a new image of a ‘small country with a big heart’. Cambodia can share the story of a small nation that defied the odds to become one of the most vaccinated countries on earth”.
