Immerse yourself in a world of fantastic, and free, French-language film and culture over three evenings at the first Francophone Film Biennial of Siem Reap, taking place from March 4 to 7 at the Legend Cinema at Heritage Walk, Siem Reap.

Brought to you by the France-Cambodia Chamber of Commerce in Siem Reap and Alliance Française Siem Reap, the Biennial features 16 movies from nine different countries, including some of the greatest French-language films produced in 2019 as well as a few Cambodian classics and recent productions.

Among the films on show is Duelles, a Hitchcockian psychological thriller from Belgium that almost swept the boards at the 10th Magritte Awards (Belgian film awards) last year, winning in nine categories — out of ten nominations — including Best Film and Best Director for Olivier Masset Depasse.

Another multiple award-winner comes from Algeria with Papicha, a story of personal resistance during war-time that has won a range of awards, including Best New Director for Mounia Meddour.
With a whole host of nominations and selections at film festivals around the world, La Belle Epoque from director French Nicolas Bedos is certainly making waves with a sparkling, funny and tender story of love and theatrical time travel.

From Cambodia’s own King Norodom Sihanouk, the Biennial is also screening the comedy La Joie de Vivre and Apsara, a documentary examination of Cambodian traditional dance

Also from the Kingdom comes Poppy Goes to Hollywood, an upbeat comedy drama about a homophobic straight guy who hides out with transgender entertainers after witnessing a murder and Cambodia’s first LGBT-themed film.

There are plenty of others to check out too, all for free. To find out more about the schedule, take a look at https://www.facebook.com/events/931058877310362/.
