As 2018 draws to a close, we at Thalias Hospitality are taking the opportunity to look back on our last 12 months. The root of our name, “thalia”, means plentiful, luxuriant, or abundant. And we are pleased to say that the past year has been full of achievements for us. Not only have our brands delivered on their mission to enrich Cambodia’s culinary scene but we have also been a preeminent advocate for the local F&B industry in general. Here are some highlights that have marked the Group’s 2018 year.

Thalias Hospitality is nothing without the tremendous human talent that is our cornerstone. And this year, we’re proud several employees have been recognised as outstanding examples of customer service in competitions and other programmes. Such as Pen Sotheany, pastry chef at Khéma Pasteur, winner of a silver medal at the Cambodia National Culinary Competition. And Arunreas Hotel’s front desk Manager Khun Sarith, finalist in The Hotelier Awards Asia. Three Thalias staff members have also been accepted in the two-year diploma programme of the Academy of Culinary Arts in Cambodia. We wish them the best of luck.

Or commitment to dynamic improvement guided our hand over the year with a strong Corporate Social Responsibility plan as the bedrock of this strategy. Our efforts address environmental protection, the well-being of our staff, and also that of the Cambodian community. For example, this year, all our outlets began stocking biodegradable straws in order to reduce plastic waste. And only a few months ago, our Siem Reap staff helped plant over 200 trees at Banteay Kdei and Ta Prohm temples with Siem Reap HR Club. Through continuous and comprehensive training and involvement in charitable causes, our staff is encouraged to develop build capacity and create a positive impact on their communities. This atmosphere of involvement is representative of our goal to create a Thalias Family. In 2019, we look to continue and expand this tradition of raising the standards of Cambodia’s hospitality industry and society.

As an ambassador for Cambodia’s rapidly growing culinary landscape, Thalias Hospitality also participated in or sponsored various fairs throughout 2018. Some standouts were the International Travel Expo in Hong Kong which attracted over 100,000 visitors. Back home, Cambodia Association of Travel Agents Fair, Camfood exhibition and Eurofair showcased the best Cambodia’s tourism has to offer to over 20,000 interested parties. And at the Cambodia Travel Mart, we were pleased to have been recognized as having the Best Booth Decoration.

In 2019, Thalias will certainly continue this tradition and offer more reasons to celebrate with a raft of other events to satisfy all of Cambodia’s food lovers. Get ready for our upcoming Michelin Star event at Topaz on January 17th, decadent cheese tastings at Khéma, the continuing evolution of Living Cambodian Cuisine at Malis and other surprises as the New Year unfolds.
