It’s definitely the season for celebrations and remembrance. Whether it’s Halloween, Water Festival, Independence Day, Armistice Day, Thanksgiving or you’re already deep into your preparations for Christmas, there’s a merrier feeling in the air lately, especially as this year’s much-needed tourist season starts to roll out.
This is also the time of year when Europeans warm their bones over hot drinks laced with Asian flavours, especially cinnamon, clove and allspice. France’s influence on Cambodian cuisine has long been talked about, and now it may go beyond that with the news that Battambang is now successfully growing asparagus, so long the favourite of Europe’s aristocrats, which is also currently in the midst of a four-month long season. Reason enough to celebrate on its own.
So here’s to sharing, celebrations and exchanges, and the infinite subtle ways we continue to flavour each other’s experiences.
