Normally at this time of year a certain frisson runs through the tourism industry as the traditionally quiet September month gives way to plans and preparations for the upcoming tourist season and all the extraordinary opportunities this brings for revealing Cambodia’s magic to the world. This year, most people are feeling weary and more than a little apprehensive about the future. This is why it is essential that steps are taken soon to reopen the Kingdom’s borders to fully vaccinated tourists from countries that also enjoy high vaccination and prevention rates for the virus that has turned all our lives upside down.


But even then Thalias has not allowed the wide pessimism to thwart our plans for bigger and better things, and you’ll find out more about them in the links below.


I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank Lina Hak and Sambo Nov on their recent promotions, and all of the hard work that they have put in to their life in Thalias so far. You’ll see more about their journeys and expectations below too.

Like everyone everywhere, Cambodia’s world has been turned on its head by Covid, and no one is untouched. But that has been especially the case when it comes to Cambodia’s tourism and hospitality industries and all of the people those industries employ, all of whom have been devastated by the pandemic and the resultant catastrophic drop in the number of visitors to the country. But Cambodia’s government has also managed to pull off an extraordinary coup with Phnom Penh being the most vaccinated city in the world, and the rest of the country catching up fast. It is time for us all to start planning for a new, safe reopening of the country to international travel, and all of the opportunities that represents.
